    MTG Summer Ladder: Play More, Climb Higher

    The MTG Summer Ladder is back—ready to turn your “I’ll just rally” plans into a full-blown ranking obsession. This flexible singles league lets players set their own matches, explore courts across the tri-state, and log results all summer long. Win when you can, chase who you must—and come September, the top 8 players in each division advance to playoffs to battle it out for the title.

    Eligibility & Registration

    • Who Can Play: Active MTG members only (yes, this is your sign)

    • Registration: After registering, an email invite will be sent to join the ladder hosted on Global Tennis Network

    • Rolling Admission: Join at any point during the season—commitment is flexible, your record is not

    Season Structure

    • Season Dates: April 15, 2026 → September 7, 2026

    • Playoffs: Top 8 players in each division qualify for September playoffs to determine the champions

    • Weekly Match Limit: Up to 3 matches per week count toward standings

    • Weekly Window: Each playing week runs Sunday → Saturday

    Match Play & Format

    • How Matches Work: Coordinate with opponents, agree on time/place/format, play, then log scores online like it absolutely mattered

    • Flexible Match Formats (because public courts keep everyone humble)

      • Pro set to 8 games (tiebreak at 7–7)

      • Best of 3 sets (final set = full set or tiebreak)

    Levels & Placement

    • Divisions

      • Intermediate → Advanced (NTRP 3.5+)

      • Beginner (NTRP 3.0 and below)

      Calling all high-intermediate players. Join us on the outdoor hard courts at NTC for an exciting doubles round robin.

      We've got two hours of fast-paced, rotating play lined up, giving you the perfect chance to team up with a variety of partners and show off your skills! No partner required, we will match you up with one.

      But the fun doesn't stop there! Stick around after the last serve for a fun social get-together. We will walk to a nearby restaurant to unwind, share laughs, and connect with fellow players off the court!

      Calling all advanced players (4.0+) for a fun and friendly Doubles Round Robin. No partner required, we will match you based on level!

      All players will play two one-hour doubles games, back-to-back, with rotating partners and opponents.

      Optional social at Zero Otto Nove on Arthur Avenue, directly after!

      Playing level guidelines

      This event is designed for players that typically meet one of the following criteria:

      • Rated 4.0 or higher by USTA
      • Play “A” or higher in GLTA events and have won matches at this level
      • Play "B" in GLTA events and have reached a final at this level

      Please contact the event organizer if you are a self-rated player at the 4.0 level that does not meet the criteria above and would like to confirm whether this is a suitable event for you.

      NEW! Calling all 3.0–3.75 players! MTG is rolling out a new playing-level format built for higher intermediate players. Rotating doubles and drills at Roosevelt Island Racquet Club, plus an optional post-play hang.

      Key Details:

      • Level 3.0–3.75: for players who meet NTRP 3.0+ criteria 
      • Format: 2 hours total • 2 courts of doubles + 1 court of drills/games with an instructor 
      • Players: 12 total • rotations every ~40 minutes, matched by level 
      • Plan Ahead: Arrive 15 minutes early • limited lockers (bring a lock), showers, water available • optional post-play food & drinks at Granny Annie’s nearby Please note: players who do not meet the stated level criteria may be removed from registration. If you have questions about your level, contact the event host.

      Directions by Subway:  The best way to get there is using the F train or the Roosevelt Tram (60th and 2nd Ave). Please check the F schedule day of as there are often changes in train schedules or delays, especially on weekends.

      ADVANCED BEGINNER DRILL & PLAY

      The most fun way to get better at tennis

      If you're taking lessons, learning the basics, or trying to play more matches, this event was built for you. Our Advanced Beginner Drill & Play combines coach-led drills with rotating doubles play, giving you the perfect mix of instruction, practice, and real-game experience.

      You'll hit a lot of balls, meet players at your level, and leave feeling more confident on the court.

      No partner required. We'll handle the pairings and rotations.

      What's Included:

      ✅ Coach-led drills and games 

      ✅ Rotating doubles play

      ✅ Structured format designed for advanced beginners (2.0–2.75)

      ✅ Meet other tennis players

      ✅ Optional post-tennis dinner and drinks at Granny Annie's (5 min walk)

      Location & Arrival:

      Roosevelt Island Racquet Club

      Meet in the reception area. Arrive a few minutes early so that the court assignments can be distributed and orientation to the facility can be provided to all attendees. The sooner we go through the formalities, the sooner we get on the courts.

      Facility Information:

      • Fresh/cold water is provided on each court.
      • There are full locker room facilities available (including showers) with limited availability to lockers.  If you want to use a locker, please remember to bring a lock.

      Two matches. One afternoon. Your shot at Ladder Legend status.

      Ladderpalooza returns — your chance to stack results, chase points, and actually move on the Summer Ladder. Expect tight matches, maybe a heated rivalry (or two), and a very real opportunity to shake up the standings.

      Event Details

      • Courts: 8 total (max 16 players)
      • Division A (3.5 & above): 5 courts
      • Division B (3.0 & below): 3 courts
      • Outdoor hardcourts

      Food

      Pizza will be served after our session during a social hour on the grounds of NTC.

      How It Works

      Open only to MTG members currently registered for the Summer Ladder.

      • You’ll play 2 official ladder matches (each up to 1 hour)
      • We handle pairings — you just show up ready to compete
      • Tennis balls provided
      • You must be registered for the MTG Summer Ladder and sign up for the correct division Wrong division = registration canceled
      • The weekly limit is 3 ladder matches total—Ladderpalooza counts as 2 matches, so you can play 1 additional match that week

      Match Format

      • Match 1: Pro Set, first to 8 games
      • Match 2: Pro Set, first to 8 games

      Rules

      • No-ad scoring (receiver chooses side)

      • Tiebreak at 7–7 (7-point tiebreak, win by 2)

      • Record as a two-set match.  Example scoring: 4–3, 4–1;  Example with tiebreak: 4–3, 3–4, 1–0

      • Keep play continuous: play the full 1 hour until time stops (e.g. bathroom breaks should be taken before or after your match)

      • Warm-up: 10 minutes max
      • Default rule: Automatic default if a player is 15 minutes late (inclusive of warm-up)

      Match Times Out
      • A game in progress should not be completed and does not count
      • Player with the most games wins the match
      • If at a tie break, player with the most points wins

      Registration & Waitlist

      • First come, first served — yes, it will go fast
      • Registration for incorrect divisions will be canceled
      • Once full, a waitlist will open 
      • Miss this one? Don’t panic — more Ladderpaloozas are coming this season

          We’re switching it up this year and heading to Queens for New York Mets Pride Night at Citi Field!

          Historically, Pride Night at Citi Field has been fun, festive, and a great celebration of our community and LGBTQ+ history—and we expect this year will not disappoint.

          As an added treat, it’s a "heated rivalry" on the field as the Mets are taking on their division foes, the Philadelphia Phillies.

          Here’s what you need to know:

            Catch up with all your tennis pals amid a fun evening of socializing and playing two hours of tennis at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center – home of the US Open!

            All players will play a 1-hour match, take a 1-hour hangout break (where dinner is provided), then play a second 1-hour match. If you have a tennis partner, let us know so we put you together. If you don't have one, no worries; we'll pair you with someone around your same level.

            Metropolitan Tennis Group’s flagship tournament returns to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, uniting sport, community, and impact.


            Join us July 10–12 at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open, for a weekend that brings together great tennis, vibrant community, and meaningful impact. Players from across the country and beyond will compete across multiple divisions while celebrating the freedom to play openly and authentically.

            Hosted by Metropolitan Tennis Group and sanctioned by the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance, the Liberty Open welcomes competitors of all levels and proudly supports The Trevor Project, with tournament proceeds benefiting the organization’s work supporting LGBTQ+ youth.

            Additional tournament details—including Player Draw Party and Event Banquet—will be announced soon. So start practicing that serve, and register early as this event is known to sell out. We can’t wait to see you on court.

            This year’s Liberty Open banquet theme, “Love All,” is inspired by both tennis and community — celebrating inclusion, visibility, and connection.

            Join tournament players during Liberty Open weekend for an evening of conversation, entertainment, dancing, and impact. Open to everyone (including non-players), the banquet brings together the broader community in celebration of one of the nation’s longest-running LGBTQ+ tennis tournaments.
