Hi MTG Community,
Welcome back from tennis hibernation! On behalf of the MTG board, it’s my pleasure to announce registration for MTG’s Summer Ladder. The Summer Ladder is an opportunity to play singles with fellow MTG members flexibly and competitively and explore courts throughout the New York tri-state area. Once registered, you can find opponents and agree on a time, location, and game format. After each match, record your scores online.
Registration: The Ladder is hosted on Global Tennis Network. Once registered for the Summer Ladder, watch for an email to join.
Game Format: Because it can be hard to keep public courts for extended periods, we allow 3 formats, best of 3 sets (ending with either a full set or a tie break), a pro set with a tie break at 7-all, or best of 3 mini sets to 4 games with tie breaks at 3-all and for the 3rd set. Here are other rules for the ladder.
Level Split: We will have two ladders. I place everyone based on the rating in their MTG profile.
Intermediate -> Advanced (NTRP 3.5+)
Beginner (NTRP 3.0 and below)
Note If you are unsure about your NTRP rating, consider the following videos (3.5 video, 3.0 video). Feel free to reach out if you are still not sure!
Communications: In addition to Global Tennis Network, I will maintain a WhatsApp group to make it easier to arrange matches. You can also arrange matches through Global Tennis Network, but this usually takes more time.
Ladder Schedule: This year's Summer Ladder runs from Friday, May 2, 2025 to Monday, September 1, 2025. Up to 3 matches each week will be counted towards playoffs. Each playing week begins on a Sunday and ends on the following Saturday. In September, we hold playoffs to determine the 2025 Summer Ladder champion.
If you have any questions, please reach out to secretary@metrotennisgroup.com

You must be an active MTG member to play the 2025 Summer Ladder.
Registration and enrollment for the ladder is a "rolling admissions" process. The competition begins on Friday, May 2, 2025 but you can join after that date at any point during the summer.
Players will be split into 2 groups and have time in between rounds to have provided dinner and to hang out with your friends and hopefully make some new ones.
This is a round-robin event and women are encouraged to join. If you have a tennis partner, let us know so we put you together. If you don't have one, no worries; we'll take care of that.
Note on playing level and format: beginner level players who are unfamiliar with the round-robin format might want to consider registering for an MTG Beginner level party first or inquiring with the event coordinator to establish their comfort.
Session Group Assignments: players will be randomly selected for each group in terms of start time. An email will be sent the night before the event with your group assignment.
Fee: Members $35 / Non-Members $45
